Happiness –You spend a majority of your life at work, so try to find something you enjoy. Never let your job take control of your emotions or change who you are as a person.
Salary – Instead of waiting around for the next promotion, moving on to the next job might result in an immediate salary bump (and even a signing bonus).
Knowledge – Your diverse background can make you attractive for potential employers, especially if you’re able to apply lessons learned to improve company processes and procedures.
Networking – Your chance of landing a new job is significantly increased when it comes with a personal referral. The more people you meet, the bigger your network of potential recommendations will become.
Time Off – You won’t just be leaving your colleagues behind, but also hard earned vacation weeks. Most companies start new hires with only two weeks’ vacation in the US.
First-Impressions – Jumping from job to job can unintentionally create a questionable resume. Employers may draw conclusions about reliability or loyalty, especially if there’s no rational explanation for shifts.
Lost Money – Leaving a job too early can result in leaving behind thousands of unrealized 401k savings. Many companies require at least a 2-3 year commitment in order to keep matched contributions.
Job Security – Being the low man on the totem pole, might mean you’ll be the first to go if your company or industry takes a turn for the worst.
If you’re going to hop from job to job, then make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons and aware of the risks. It’s important to have a clear explanation for why you shifted from one position to the other and to make sure you always leave on good terms!
