It serves as an efficient way to connect with users from around the world and share valuable information with a large audience. The app was launched in February 2004 and as of today has over 2.27 billion users!

Instagram

Instagram is a social networking app made for sharing photos, videos, and captions to the world. It’s generally used as a highlight reel or running documentary for most individuals who post flattering pictures or videos living their best life to see what they’ve done and where they’ve been.  It can also be used for businesses and groups to express their brand and connect with the customer visually through the look of their profile and what they post. Instagram is based around how many followers you have and as a result allows your profile to be viewed by people from all around the world who find you. The app was launched in October 2010 and as of today has reached over 1 billion users! The most active users are in the 18 to 29 year old demographic according to the Pew report.

twitter

Twitter is a social platform used for connecting people around the world with the same interests. It’s not generally a platform you use to follow your family or friends, but rather, celebrities, politicians, and those you don’t know on a personal level. Since you can follow anyone and anyone can follow you, there’s tons of interesting things to find out about people's everyday lives and thoughts. This platform is also highly known for its “breaking news.” The simplicity of the site means that the first thing many people do when something tragic or big happens is “tweet” out what's going on with words, so then others can see it and retweet to help spread the message quicker than national news outlets. The app was launched in March 2006 and as of today has over 336 million users!

Linkedin

LinkedIn is a social network specifically designed for career and business professionals to connect and build strategic relationships. Members create online resumes, listing their current and previous job roles, their skills, and their education. Unlike the other apps, the number of connections is less important than the type of connections. In fact, it actually stops showing you the number of connections you have after 500 since it’s about QUALITY, not quantity. LinkedIn is a perfect tool to help obtain resources and support or build connections with potential customers, clients, or partners. It’s also used by businesses to create profiles and list current job openings where candidates can apply through LinkedIn. The app was launched in May 2003 and as of today has over 590 million users!

Snapchat

Snapchat is a mobile messaging application used to share photos, videos, text, and drawings. One of the core concepts of the app is that any picture or video or message you send is made available to the receiver for only a short amount of time before it becomes inaccessible. There are fun features that allow you to add filters to your images or little doodles to spruce the pictures/videos up. You can also add your snap to your “story” a 24-hour collection of all your snaps that’s broadcasted to the world or just your followers. Snapchat is mostly a hit among teenagers and young adults. The app was launched in September 2011 and as of today has over 300 million users!

Youtube

YouTube is video sharing service where users can watch, like, share, comment and upload their own videos. You have the option to browse videos and the channels of various "YouTubers", or create your very own channel and videos.
